Necromunda - Klovis the Redeemer, Deacon Malakev, and Spyre Hunters complete!

$

I've been in 'small project' mode and have been going through the un-/partially-painted shelves looking for fun stuff to knock out, and today it's a couple blasts from the past - Leading off with Klovis the Redeemer and Deacon Malakev!

These two have been sitting on the shelf for nearly twenty years and with the release of the new Necromunda it's high time they got their time in the sun. Tried to stick with the classic paint scheme for him, and I'm really looking forward to seeing when/whether they get to the Redemptionists!

In a similar vein, the Spyre Hunter Matriarch was a model I picked up waaaaay back in the day but never got around to painting. It's about time! I've unfortunately never owned the associated Patriarch model. I really ought to track one down...

Last but not least I thought I'd try and modernize some of my old models - Led off with my old Spyre Hunter team. I didn't want to give them a full "dip and strip" as I sort of like having the history. I did clean them up a little though, some washes and touch-ups for the most part. Again, hoping that we'll see GW doing the equivalent of the Outlanders supplement in the future!

40k Harlequins - Troupe complete!

Continuing on with the "pulling random old stuff off the shelf" plan I've been working with, There's been a small troupe of Harlequins quietly gathering dust for well over a year. But no longer!

Originally intended to be part of a Dark Eldar army I started and eventually shelved ages ago, these clowns got the Mardi Gras scheme of purple, yellow and green - always an eye-catching combo! Freehanding a zillion little triangles and polka dots was an exhausting exercise!

The troupe's Skyweaver got the same scheme to tie them together, and I am considering adding some further triangles or polka dots along the front of the fuselage - I think it could stand a little more flair!

Overall however I'm fairly happy with 'em, definitely was fun to break out some eye-twisting colors!

Necromunda - Bull Gorg modernized!

One of my favorite Necromunda special characters from back in the day was Bull Gorg, pit fighter hero extraordinaire - We ran many a fun scenario with him either staging a revolt, or doing king of the hill style pit fights. Figured I ought to get him cleaned up and modernized for the new version!

I will cop to some youthful exuberance in this build (to be fair, it was nearly 20 years ago), as technically Bull Gorg is just a big human, and not a full-blown Ogryn (he's standing on a 60mm base). Still, can't deny he's an imposing model on the table!

The model is based on an old metal fantasy Ogre, an old rhino hatch in place of the usual belly plate and some techno-gubbins bodged on in the rear. With the addition of a pair of big-ass metal chainswords from the 54mm Inquisitor range it's got some serious heft to it - Let's just say the model can double as a paperweight! Touched up the paint scheme a bit here and there, mostly getting some more highlights in and updating the base color scheme. He's ready for his next fight!

Retrospective - Hobby Year In Review 2017

A very happy holidays to all the readers out there, and a merry Feast of The Emperor's Ascension to one and all! With the year drawing to a close I thought it would be nice to take a look back over 2017 and see how things went. It was definitely a whirlwind of hobby activity!

January - Filled with feverish painting as the deadline for Adepticon looms. Imperial Fists ahoy!

February - Finished painting the Imperial Fists army for Adepticon, sold the Thousand Sons from the previous year (NOVA 2016) and immediately embarked on the (checks notes) fourth iteration of the force.

March - Adepticon 2017! The Imperial Fists are sold on-site, it's always nice to sell a force to someone and be able to tell them thanks in person. The Khamasiin takes shape, and the forges of Zhao Arkkad begin disgorging new Cybernetica cohorts!

April through July - Thousand Sons overload, seriously I just wouldn't stop banging on about the scions of Magnus, but to be fair the army needed to be complete by the end of July in order to be ready for NOVA!

August - A little breather with Gencon and NOVA taking up almost all the free time. Only work of note was the Freeblade Knight Khenti-Amentiu. Fun month though!

September - 8th edition happened and I caught the NuMarine bug and built a small Blood Ravens force. Couldn't face painting more red after four straight months of it, and instead dove in on a Sons of Horus force. Of course. It's a totally understandable reaction that couldn't possibly get out of hand, right?

October - Dreadtober! More Emperor-be-damned crimson! And a whole mess of seafoam green, too!

November - The hobby ADHD kicks into high gear as the year draws to a close. More Sons of Horus, the Genestealer Cult is completed and Necromunda is released!

December - Capping the year is possibly my best work to date on Horus, and the hobby butterfly continues to flitter about with a mess of terrain, more Necromunda and out of the blue, some Harlequins!

Models completed in 2017
Imperial Fists: 47 infantry, 4 vehicles
Thousand Sons: 93 infantry, 4 vehicles
Mechanicum: 15 killer robots
Blood Ravens: 9 NuMarines
Sons of Horus: 53 infantry, 5 vehicles
Genestealer Cult: 46 infantry
Necromunda: 34 gangers
Harlequins: 6 infantry, 1 vehicle
Terrain: 8 vehicles

Total: 303 infantry, 22 vehicles - A tidy pile of completed miniatures in 2017, if I do say so myself!

Next up, looking ahead to 2018!

Quick hit this morning - Been on a hobby bender but haven't organized all the pics yet! Plenty of post fodder on the way though!

Every so often I'll pull a model or two off the RPG minis shelf as a little palate cleanser, and a totally-not-LeeLoo-and-Korben set from Heresy Miniatures fit the bill nicely! They were a really fun little duo to paint up even though the sculpts are a little wonky. Mulllllti-pass!

Necromunda - Deadbolt's Derelict Corridors build begins

With the holidays behind me, I'm finally able to get back on the hobby horse and start putting together some of the goodies that arrived for Christmas! Figured I'd lead off the new year with another terrain project - Some MDF wall sections designed to work with the floor tiles in the new Necromunda set from Death Ray Designs!

Over the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales, they had a heck of a sale on their terrain kits, with the Deadbolt Derelict sets going for almost 30% off, so I snapped up a couple sets. Due to the volume of orders however they didn't arrive at my place until after Christmas. Nevertheless I eagerly unwrapped them and started punching out approximately one zillion little MDF chunks.

Lesson learned from my previous foray into MDF work, use the proper glue! Previously I'd gone with superglue (not knowing any better) which was very brittle and didn't stick well. Following some recommendations online I picked up a couple bottles of Titebond II wood glue, and have to say that my experience with it during this project has been a revelation. Highly recommended!

Really impressed with how the kit is designed to fit together. It's a mix of cross-lap and tab-and-slot joins which all fit together beautifully with the barest minimum of sanding/trimming. While they do all press fit together, some glue is definitely needed to hold everything in place - they will not simply hold together under their own power.

One of the more mind-numbing portions of the build is all the little detailing work - each short wall section requires a 9-piece detail on either side. They fit together well once I got a handle on the build order, but boy does it get tedious...

...Especially when you have to repeat it 20 times!

The central columns were a comparative breeze to assemble, just 8 wall sections, a base and a top. Easy peasy! Which is good...

...Because there's 24 of them to do! You'll note the slots in the sides, which are designed to allow the wall sections to hook in place in a rather clever way so inadvertent bumping of the table won't toss wall sections around like dominoes.

In addition to the short wall sections there are also a further 24 two-wide wall sections with various detailing - some with just two-sets of X-shaped details like on the short sections...

Some have vents in one panel, which should look neat with various slime oozing out of them as part of the painting process.

...And some have little hatches built in. Thank the Maker that the doors are just single-piece additions. Of course, there's still approximately half a zillion little X-shaped detail panels to install. Eurgh.

Before I went completely mad installing all the details I wanted to see how the walls looked on the boards and overall I am well pleased. Interestingly, the kit is technically short a couple columns to completely populate the boards, but a spare short wall section fills the gap well enough. I'm not sure it that's a conscious design decision on their part, or if I may have gotten a mis-pack - it does seem as though I had a bunch of leftover walls and not enough columns, perhaps there was a sheet swap somewhere along the way? In any case I am really jazzed about the kit for use in both Necromunda as well as Zone Mortalis on the Heresy front. Good stuff!

...Now if only it would warm up enough that I could get some primer on 'em!

Heresy Era Sons of Horus - Anvilus Dreadclaw painted!

Just a quick hit this evening - Finally got a chance to upload a fair few pics of some work done over the last week or two, starting off with a Dreadclaw for the Sons of Horus!

I ended up picking up a trio of them ostensibly for the Sons of Horus, but upon further reflection two of them are going to be held in reserve for some future project. As I'd done a whole drop army with the previous Thousand Sons I didn't want to just repeat that. However, it'll be useful to have one in the SoH force to ferry in a dreadnought or cheeky unit of terminators!

Pretty straightforward scheme, gave the ground spikes and undercarriage a little weathering, but the model is so 'busy' that there's not really much of a place where I thought any waterslide transfers would look good. So, calling it done for now!

Inq28 - Eisenhorn and friends!

Late last year I rolled the dice on ordering some models from an Etsy shop called Artel W. Miniatures that caught my fancy. Generally speaking I wasn't expecting too much being the first time ordering from a tiny caster in the Russian federation so I was prepared to be disappointed. Turns out in the end I was not!

First off, the miniatures did take nearly six weeks to arrive which is on the long side for these sorts of products, but not completely out of the ordinary, and to be fair there was the Christmas and New Years in there. Once the package arrived I was eager to get stuck in but was greeted by a rather cool surprise inside the shipping envelope - the box was wrapped in parchment, bound in twine and sealed with a rather cool wax seal. I have to say I was rather charmed by that little extra detail!

Rather eagerly I set to building the models - They came with plastic bases but thought they deserved some more interesting resin bases. The models that caught my eye initially were totally-not Inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn, the psychic blank Alizebeth Bequin, Chastener Godwyn Fischig and the Daemonhost Cherubael. Holy moly are the models fiddly, but really dig how they came together!

(Edit: They've subsequently released several other models, including one called "The Distaff", leading me to believe that what I took to be Bequin when I originally ordered her is in fact Patience Kys.)

(Edit to the edit: Apparently they've updated some of the models names on the shop since I placed the order back in November. It's apparently supposed to be Elena Derosa from DOW2, but personally I think she'll make a perfect Patience Kys anyway.)

The second batch of models that I couldn't pass up included Inquisitor Covenant, Commissar Ciaphas Cain (Hero of the Imperium), and his loyal dogsbody Jurgen - Interestingly, also a Pariah like Bequin (albeit far more fragrant).

(Edit: As Jarvalex points out in the comments below, what I had taken to be Covenant is in fact a pre-Thracian-Disaster Inquisitor Ravenor, which makes sense!)

Since I placed the order they've released several other new models that I plan on ordering. While the shipping was long, the sculpts are beautiful and I look forward to painting them up!

40k Exodite Eldar - Wait, what?

You ever have one of those ideas that just won't quite let go of ya? Ever since the Sylvaneth line dropped, I have always thought that the Treelord model would make for a great Exodite-themed Avatar of Khaine. I mean, just look at it!

Er, yeah - That may be one that I bought and built over the weekend. I've been mulling over how to do an Exodite army for years and thanks to a wonderful Christmas gift I was able to pick one up. Of course, that got me in the store and suddenly a couple more boxes sort of accidentally got purchased.

This included a kitbashed counts-as Wraithlord comprised of the standard kit, the Drycha Hamadreth kit, and a fair bit of greenstuff. This got me thinking about the general aesthetic I wanted to go with and I'm going to veer away slightly from the usual Lizardman and Dark Elf bits and use more of the High/Wood Elf and Sylvan kits. Wood and bugs instead of stone and dinosaurs - Maybe a little unconventional, but it seemed like it could be a fun way to go!

As the plan is to build a force that is a direct counts-as craftworld force, I knew I needed some guardians. I'd done the Black Ark Corsairs method with their lizardskin cloaks a little while back for the dark eldar army and didn't want to just repeat that, so after a little consideration settled on the Shadow Warriors kit as a basis for what I'm calling "Glade Guardians" (oh so poncy, just like the pointy eared gits tend to get). Haven't built up a heavy weapons platform for them quite yet as i think it ought to be mounted on the back of a beetle or spider of some variety. Gotta find the right critters!

As far as it goes, they went together pretty easily. One of the gotchas is that both the Eldar legs and the Shadow Warrior torsos have sockets, but a little ball of greenstuff and they fit together nicely. Any unsightly joins are covered by the equipment belt off the guardian sprue, and with the addition of some bugs and critters here and there they read as guardians but with a naturalistic bent which I think fits the force pretty well!

Still penciling together lists and pondering further kitbash combos to represent other units, but I do know I am going to keep it to a tidy little 1500 point force. Each unit is going to be comprised of two or three kits, so things will have a tendency to get pricey real quick if I just go whole hog on the project. Still, these have been a black to build so far and I'm looking forward to building more crazy Bark Eldar. Hah!

A terrible pun, I know. Couldn't wait to get some paint on the models and try and see whether my hands could do what my brain was picturing!

One should always use a big centerpiece model as a tester, right? Actually started with the Branchlord for a reason, it had the widest range of textures and colors in my head that I needed to get down onto the miniature. I knew that the wood, bark and wraithbone would all be very neutral colors, so the addition of the yellow on the hives and red/orange on the leaves warmed it up somewhat. From a color theory perspective that meant it ought to get some purple/violets and blue/green tones as complimentary colors, so the beetles got the purple while the waystones and other creepy crawlies get the green.

The base got a slightly different brown shade from the rest of the wood, and then a fair bit of static grass and leaf litter was added to bring the colors up a bit and give the model a bit more 'pop'. All in all I'm pretty pleased with the scheme and I'm looking forward to applying the colors to the other models!

As part of the planning process I broke out the trusty painting chart and have been trying out various units to make a ~2000pt force. Still have 100 points or so to play with so there's some wiggle room as inspirations strikes. Put in an order for the kits to make up the next few models - A Spiritseer, a Warlock Conclave and a trio of counts-as Vypers. Much more to come!

Heresy Era Sons of Horus - Rhino chassis "Off the factory floor"

Just a quick hit this morning - Realized I hadn't posted up the recent in-progress shots of the Sons of Horus Rhino-based vehicles I've been working on. Sadly it's been really cold of late (what with it being winter and all) so I haven't had a change to get anything spray sealed for fear of mucking it up due to temperature. Nonetheless I have gotten the trio of Rhinos to the point where they're ready to receive waterslides and weathering!

A quick pic of the three variant turrets, allowing the tanks to be used as a trio of regular Rhinos with a pintle-mounted Multimeltas, Whirlwinds, and/or a Damocles command tank (or a mix thereof). Really rather happy with how they're coming along so far, and am looking forward to adding some legion symbols and some muck and scrapes to give 'em a bit more personality. So far, so good!

40k Exodite Eldar - Initial Wraithguard models built!

Some kits came in today that allowed me to get cracking on the first three test models for the Wraithguard units I have planned. I knew I wanted to build something that had similar design cues to the Wraithlord from earlier, which meant figuring out how meld similar Eldar bits onto the Kurnoth Hunter bodies. After a bit of dry fitting and trimming it all came together surprisingly well!

Started off by trimming down the "collar" from the Wraithguard kit, as I knew I wanted to continue the use of the Eldar heads mated onto the Sylvan bodies akin to the Wraithlord. Similarly, the neck was trimmed down a bit to accept the collar.

The D-Cannon was carefully trimmed away from the arm, leaving the hand and hose intact. I pulled a likely-looking candidate arm from the Hunters kit and trimmed out the sword.

I found a reasonably straight left arm to match up with the D-Cannon's other fist and then did a bunch of dryfitting until I was reasonably sure all the pieces would go together (with the addition of a little greenstuff here and there of course).

All the dry-fitting and pondering over the various bits paid off, and the initial test model ended up pretty much matching the vision I had in my head, and fit together surprisingly well - Better than I had expected, for sure!

After getting my eye in on the first model, the next two virtually flew together! I do have a bit of a conundrum however - The Kurnoth Hunter models come three to a box, while the Wraithguard are squads of five. That naturally means that I am more or less obligated to make fifteen of them, right? Considering doing five each of D-Cannon, D-Scythe, and twin Wraithblade-armed models...

40k Exodite Eldar - Glade Guardians and Bonesinger painted!

In between alternately slicing open and gluing my fingers together while working on the wraithguard, I got some brush time in and finished up the first squad of Glade Guardians and a Bonesinger (Woodsinger?) to accompany the various wraith constructs the force will include.

Keeping the same scheme as the Wraithlord from earlier meant that the armor would be varying tones of brown and bone, which meant for quite a while during the process the models looked TERRIBLE. Gotta love that interim stage in the painting process where you can't help but think to yourself "Well, these look like garbage!". Persevered and got the oranges, reds and yellows in place and they started to look a bit more autumnal - I think they'll fit in nicely now!

Due to the fact that the force is going to include a ton of wraith constructs, I dug out an old Bonesinger that had been rattling around in the Closet of Doom for ages. From an aesthetics point of view he's not particularly converted other than the addition of some bugs (a common theme across the force). It was fun to finally paint a model that's been languishing for well over a decade!

Apparently they did a brief re-release of the model late last year, and included a set of rules for him for 8th. Perfect timing!

As alluded to above, I spent a little more time hacking apart the plastic kits and finished up the first full unit of Wraithguard (Branchwraiths?). Really pleased with how they've come along, and can't wait to get some paint on 'em. Now if only it wasn't currently snowing outside I could get them primed!

As the Kurnoth Hunters come three to a box, there was one leftover body, so I took the opportunity to test build the first of the Wraithblade models - I think I'm going to do a 5-strong unit with twin swords and a 5-strong unit with axes and shields. The running poses of the Hunter models lend themselves well to the melee style wraithblades, not to mention it opens up the pose a bit allowing for the cool hollow torso detail to be seen (well less so in this picture, but still). At this point I ran out of bits and have to wait a week or more for the next order to arrive, but all in all the army is shaping up nicely!

40k Exodite Eldar - Avatar of the Tanelorn Wood painted!

$

Sometimes what makes sense in the mind's eye doesn't necessarily translate to the miniature and today's model is a case in point I'm afraid! The seed for the Exodite army I've been working on was centered around the idea that the Sylvaneth Treelord model would make a cool Avatar, and that jumpstarted the whole project. Finally got around to getting some paint on him and the irony is that for it being the model that got me into the project, it turns out to be the one I'm least happy with overall. Doh!

The main issue is one of colors, I knew that as the model was a vanilla build, I needed to rely on the paint scheme to drive home its Avatar-ness. That meant a fiery burning interior and the bloody hand - Simple enough! What I hadn't really taken into account was the fact that on the earlier models I'd gone with an autumnal color scheme which is also heavy on the yellow/orange/red spectrum which meant once it was all combined the model is just sort of a mooge of those colors. It turned out all right, but isn't particularly striking - for all of the colors it still feels a little monochrome.

That's not to say that I am completely displeased. I rather like how the ember-to-charcoal-to-wood transition worked on the model, and while it could be a little more refined I'm pretty happy with it as a first time try! The bloody hand turned out pretty decent as well, with a nice gory drippy feel to it.

The little green of the grass on the base helps the model pop a little, and I quite like the small leaf litter that ties together with the leaves on the model. Overall I'm only about 75% pleased with how it turned out. Workable but not particularly exciting - Part of me wants to start over with a new version and do a witchy green internal flame rather than the orange-y red. Probably a better way to go from a pure color theory standpoint!

On the other hand, I started laying in the base colors on the Wraithguard squad and am much more pleased with how they're coming along!

Heresy Era Sons of Horus - Rhino variants complete!

While I awaited the next batch of kits to arrive for the Exodite project, I rooted around in the Closet of Doom for various half-completed projects to polish off and my eye fell upon the trio of Rhino variants that had gotten up to the "off the factory floor" stage and were just awaiting the waterslide and weathering treatment. Easy peasy!

Broke out the Microset and Microsol and got some gold iconography laid in and sealed down, nothing too outrageous required as the SoH doors on either side were garish enough I figured! Once that was done it was a simple matter to get some sponge weathering and chipping on here and there, and then get some mud and dust splashed up the sides of the hulls.

By default the chassis will be used as Rhinos to ferry the various infantry around, but to give them a little more punch, they have an additional Multi-melta (from Wargame Exclusive). Technically pintle-mounted, the servitor-controlled turret looks a bit more brutalist to me which I felt suits the Sons of Horus!

Alternately, they may also be fitted with some alternate Whirlwind turrets (or Scorpius launchers if you squint), to give the force some anti-horde capability. These turrets are also from Wargame Exclusive and I rather like 'em, though I think they may be better suited to a Word Bearers army what with the cathedral-like design aesthetic. Just means I should start a Word Bearers force, right?

Finally I managed to dig up a single radar dish suitable to run one of the Rhinos as a Damocles command tank, which dovetails nicely with the deep striking/teleporting nature of the Sons of Horus, as well as offering up some interesting Reserves manipulation shenanigans and a once-a-game pie plate lance strike from orbit. Hard to go wrong there!

Overall I'm pretty pleased with them, though looking over the pics I might give the mud and dust another going over with some sponged-on stippling. Still, they're table ready and I'm looking forward to getting some game time in with 'em!

40k Exodite Eldar - Spiritseer and Seer Council built!

$

Been a rather hectic couple of weeks in Real Life(tm) recently and not as much hobby progress as I'd like has taken place. That's not to say there hasn't been any! A package arrived with some bits and kits and I was able to assemble the remaining HQ elements of the Exodite force:

First up, the Spiritseer who will help guide the myriad wraith constructs - Il'lyrr'ieath'el'dron'ia the Unpronounceable commands the force by virtue of the number of apostrophes in her name. Built from the Mistweaver Siah model and a whole mess of bits from the ever-growing pile of leftovers, I'm really pleased with the sense of motion the model ended up having!

Rounding out the leadership is a Seer Council - I had envisioned that they were all so attuned to the worldspirit that they had partially melded with the forest and are on the way to becoming psychic husks. Eldar undead dryad psykers weren't part of my original vision when I set out but sometimes it's interesting to see where a project will lead you! Looking forward to painting these in particular, I'm going to try and do the exposed flesh in the witch-light green I've done previously with the Thousand Sons, and depending on how that looks may revisit the Avatar model and re-do the orange-y red flames in green to help contrast against the erstwhile orange-y red leaves of the autumnal scheme...

In other news, I just did my taxes and there's a bit of a cost overrun, so expect to see some models going up on the auction block soon - The most recent Thousand Sons, Prospero Spireguard and Zhao Arkkad Mechanicum have got to go, as well as some other odd stuff!

So the time has come to put the roughly 10,000 points of Thousand Sons and associated auxiliary forces up for sale to help cover some unexpected expenses as well as come up with some funds to begin the next heresy project. Figured I'd put them up here before I put them up on ebay, to see if there's any interest at the "big army" levels. To begin with I'm hoping to sell them off as three separate but complete armies, but as I realize they're pretty big ticket prices as full armies, if there are no takers either here or on ebay on I'll chunk them up into individual units for sale later on. All of the armies listed below include battlefoam trays for storage and transport!

Shipping costs will depend on the destination, I am in the U.S. and would prefer to ship stateside, as unfortunately shipping overseas can get ruinously expensive (upwards of several hundred dollars quite easily due to the size of the boxes required). If you're interested in any of these forces, please email me and we can sort out the particulars!

If there's no bites I plan on parsing them out into individual lots over the next couple weeks.

40k Exodite Eldar - Rangers and Nightspinner built!

Not a whole lot of brush time of late with Real Life(tm) munching up more of my free time than I'd prefer, but nonetheless the work continues on the Exodites of the Tanelorn Wood.

The force needed a couple more troops choices, and I knew I wanted to do a squad or two of Rangers. A fairly straightforward kitbash, the legs, torsos and heads are from the Wildwood Rangers matched with de-spike-ified splinter rifles. Simple but effective!

On the other end of the spectrum, the far more complex Night Spinner has taken shape and as a professed arachnophobe this particular part of the project has been thoroughly uncomfortable for me. Hah! It was a toss-up between the Fire Prism and the Night Spinner for the "tank", and as I've been going with a beetles and bugs and assorted creepy-crawlies the opportunity to mix in the Arachnorok Spider was the more theme-y option it seemed.

I didn't necessarily just want to plonk a Night Spinner turret on the back of the spider and call it a day, the aesthetic called for a more overgrown look, and I tied to make it seem as though the craftworld-y weapons platform is lashed in place with more natural building materials. Overall I think it works without being too busy, but we'll see how it paints up! It's certainly already creeping me out...

40k Exodite Eldar - Night Spinner painted!

So I'm reasonably arachnophobic - This project is NOT helping! Heh. After getting the Night Spinner built I wanted to get some paint on it so dived right in!

Sticking with the color scheme laid down on the force so far, the beast got a purple carapace to match the smaller beetles on the earlier models. It is a LOT of purple though, I'm thinking it needs some stripes or dots of a contrasting color to give it a bit more zing. That means doing google image searches of spiders which is not my cup of tea to say the least!

The wood and bone of the howdah contrast nicely with the gribby beast below, and hopefully sell the Night Spinner idea - The hallmark of a good counts-as army is that it's immediately apparent to one's opponent what each model is intended to represent.

Overall I'm pretty happy with how the howda turned out - I didn't want to just plonk a turret on top and call it good, so tried to get the "lashed in place" look with the wood and webbing. Really looking forward to getting on the table - This army may be the one that gets me to actually play a game of 8th edition!

Exodite Eldar - Wasp Assault Walkers Built!

Quick hit today, with the addition of a trio of new models for the Exodites - Counts-as Wasp Assault Walkers, using the Forge World rules.

The initial intent was to use the Stormcast Vanguard Palladors to do jungle-cat-based War Walkers, but I just couldn't figure out a good combo of bits to make the combo work. So, inspired by a fellow Exodite builder on Instagram I utilized the Blight Drones instead, which in the end I think will tie out with the giant spider quite well. I used some greenstuff to fill in the more egregious open sores to de-Nurgle them a little, and the end result is both creepy and fitting!

Once the first one was built, the following two just flew together (pun definitely intended)! Really looking forward to getting started on them, though a new project is also underway behind the scenes, following the successful sale of the Thousand Sons and Spireguard. Woohoo!
