Heresy Era Imperial Fists - Sicaran Venators paint in progress

$

Sadly I am still bereft of my primaris cogitator, though it's scheduled to be done tomorrow so another quick hit post this week. Had so much fun building the Sicaran Venators that I jumped in on 'em and got them almost up to the penultimate sealant stage prior to adding waterslide transfers and weathering:

The overhead lighting blew out the blues, they're quite a bit darker and my ham-fisted attempts at lightning stand out a bit more than here in the pic. Still need to go through and clean up the edge highlighting and add in one more tone lighter for the extreme edges before the initial sealant pass, but so far so good!

In a bit of miniature-based hobby news it's looking as though I'm transitioning to being just a painter rather than a wargamer, as I've had no luck finding heresy gamers locally (or ANY 40k at all, to be honest). That said, expect to see a whole slew of painted minis going up on the auction block in short order - All the minis I have aren't likely to see any table time in the foreseeable future, and I have a few trips planned for later in the year so I really ought to bolster the fun-money fund... The heresy-era mechanicum, the knights, the 40k ad-mech, and much more will all be up for grabs in job lots and individual auctions over the next few weeks (gotta get things organized and take new pics for certain units). Expect a few deep dives into the Closet of Doom for some old-school items as well...

Planning on keeping the Imperial Fists until the whole army is done though, and use it to help fund the next project - I absolutely plan on continuing on with the hobby, no fear on that score!

In order to help recoup the cost of repairing my main cogitator and help squirrel away some extra fun money for the rapidly-approaching GenCon I spent some time this past weekend sorting through the finished minis to see what I couldn't bear to part with and what could go up on the block. The first wave of stuff has gone up on eBay, including all of the painted heresy-era Mechanicum I've completed thus far,

A pair of Knight Paladins and the Cerastus Castigator,

Some pointy-eared gits,

...And a couple old and out of print books.

Link to the auctions here! More to come over the upcoming weeks as I delve ever deeper into the Closet of Doom...

No school like the old school - Confrontation Gang Leader (precursor to Necromunda)

The heat wave continues so my hobby output has been pretty minimal this week - On the upside I got a box of joy from Forge World yesterday which included the Horus Heresy Book V, and the Xiphon Interceptor for the Imperial Fists, but as the model is just sitting in a soak tank not a lot of new pictures of progress. So, time to trawl the photo archives and see what I hadn't posted up while my computer was in the shop!

A few months back while spelunking in the Closet of Doom I struck a rich seam of old out of print minis from the late 80's, and I chiseled a few out of the strata as 'palatte cleanser' models to fiddle around with when I needed a breather from the main projects. I'd documented the painting process fairly well, and thought I'd step through the process as an adjunct to the hobby articles from last month.

The model for today is from the way out of print "Confrontation" game whose rules were released in While Dwarf and was a precursor to what would eventually become Necromunda. I always thought the model would make a great Rogue Trader, as well. Starting off with faces and skin, as per the 'inside out' method - everything got a basecoat of Leather Brown, then the eyes got a layer of Ghost Grey, and Bronzed Flesh was used to pick out the forehead, cheekbones, nose and lips, leaving the Leather Brown in the recesses for shadowing.

As a bit of a hobby cheat, I do not actually paint irises on models, instead I turn to a trusty Micron pen in 005. So much more control for someone with fists of ham like me!

A quick stripe down the center of the whites using the pen followed by the tiniest little dot of Ghost Grey in the middle of the stripe as a reflective dot. A quick touch-up in Bronzed Flesh for any overspill, and then the extreme edges of the nose, cheeks, forehead and knuckles get one further highlight in thinned Bonewhite.

The pants got a basecoat of Jade Green, followed by highlights of Foul Green and Scorpion Green, and then a wash of Biel-Tan Green to help blend it together.

The reds and purples were kept pretty dark in hue - As there was a lot of gold detail on those areas I wanted to ensure the details had a dark background to set off against.

Laid in all the gold and leather and suddenly the model starts to snap into focus! Overall the model was looking quite dark so the power axe blade and the critter on his shoulder both got a bright blue to (over)compensate.

A few final details, some static grass and the model is ready to go adventuring on the fringes of Imperial space!

Heresy Era Imperial Fists - Xiphon Interceptor painting begins

Not much hobby time this past weekend what with father's day and helping a friend move, but I did manage to assemble and primer the Xiphon Interceptor and started blocking in the yellow areas to get a feel for how it'll look.

Continuing on with the predominantly black scheme on the vehicles, with yellow accent panels. So far I've just laid in the Scrofulous Brown undercoat to try and figure out the proper balance between the yellow and the black.

I'm thinking the large semi-trangular panels on the wings will get the yellow treatment as well, should help brighten it up a touch overall. So far I've been well pleased with the model, went together like a dream, and I'm looking forward to getting some more brush time in on it!

My buddy Ron over at Eye of Error is not only a phenomenal painter, great artist in other mediums, and all around good guy, is running a Kickstarter to get a custom waterslide transfer printing endeavour off the ground. It's looking pretty sweet!

Fallout Hobbies will not only be selling an ever-expanding set of decals, but will also accept custom submissions and create sheets of transfers made-to-order! This is something that I am really looking forward to, and I've got a number of ideas I can't wait to see made into reality.

Check the Kickstarter out HERE, and please consider showing him some support if you're in the market for some custom transfers!

Just a quick one before the weekend - managed to get a bit more done on the Xiphon over the last couple days - finished up the yellow panels, worked up the reflections in the canopy glass, and laid in the basic metallics.

I think the added yellow panels on the wings definitely helped brighten it up overall - they're also perfect places to put a nice big black and white Imperial Fist symbol. Another couple sessions and it'll be ready to take to the skies!

Heresy Era Imperial Fists - Army complete!

Made the big push over the past week to finish up the Xiphon and Sicaran Venators, with the weather being nice enough to be able to get the transfers, weathering and sealant in place. First up the pair of Venators:

Since they already had big Fist symbols on the sponson covers, I kept things fairly simple with some vehicle identifier symbols, and the legion number on the front glacis. I also went back in and brightened up the lightning on the barrels so it stands out a little better. I loved building and painting these tanks, and they will definitely find their way into future armies!

The Xiphon also got a bit more decorative trim, carrying the gold/bronze theme from the other models. Still of two minds about this model - it was a joy to build and paint, but something about it just doesn't resonate with me in the way the new Lightning model does. It just feels a little too 'modern era' 40k to me design-wise. For future projects I'll definitely be going back to the Lightning.

The resin base company I'd ordered from had a neat flying stand that matched the rest of the army, but rather than the standard clear stand it utilizes a ruined column to hold the flyer aloft. Sort of a neat idea, I thought!

Once they were finished I can call the army complete! A good thing too with GenCon coming up and an inevitable paroxysm of spending at the Forge World booth means it's time to get 'em up on the auction block to help pay for it. First things first, pulling out all the models for a final family photo:

That's a lot of yellow! I think it's fair to say that I've gotten pretty weary of it, but am quite happy with the recipe - will definitely be using that method on yellows in the future. Snapped a few new closeups to detail what the army contains as well:

A bunch of characters of course, from left to right: Legion Champion, Sigismund, Forge Lord, Alexis Polux, Master of Signals, Cataphractii Praetor, Apothecary and another Praetor in Artificer armour.

The veteran squad and their transport rhino - the heavy bolters coupled with the Imperial Fists bolter discipline means they lay down a surprising amount of highly accurate fire!

Gotta have a whole mess of tactical marines, and I've set them up such that they can either be run as one big 20-man squad or as two 10-man squads with rhino transports.

I'm a huge fan of the Mk.IV assault marine models, so they were a must-add for the army. ...20 of 'em may have been overkill, but there's no denying they hit like an avalanche.

You can't have an Imperial Fists army without a mess of Terminators in my opinion. I'd intended to just do a single10-man squad, but I had enough leftover bodies to create a couple extra sergeants and heavy weapons to allow for running a pair of 5-6 man squads, or swap out the heavy weapons loadout to suit the mission at hand.

A pair of Contemptor dreadnoughts, the two Venators and the Xiphon round things out nicely, and give the army some much needed anti-air and anti-vehicle punch.

Like all of my armies, the models are all secured in Battlefoam trays for storage and transport, and have some room for future expansion. The army will be going up on eBay shortly - unfortunately due to the size and weight of the two boxes they'll be packed into, it would be ruinously expensive to ship them overseas (well over $250+) so I'm afraid it's going to be US only again. I wish that it wasn't the case, but to get any sort of delivery confirmation and tracking for overseas packages the prices are just ridiculous these days.

Now to ponder the next project! I have more modern-era Adeptus Mechanicus to work on, but with  the recent arrival of the Horus Heresy Book V, it might just be time to turn my eyes back to the Prosperine Spireguard and look at updating that army a bit - tons of new options, and I have a decided urge to build and paint a Stormhammer...

40k Adeptus Mechanicus - A deadline and a plan

$

Gearing up for the convention/vacation season (as evidenced by the recent flurry of ebay sales), but that doesn't mean the hobby train is slowing down! Over the last few months I've been squirreling away the new Adeptus Mechanicus releases GW has come out with, and now that the Imperial fists are done it's time to fire up the forges.

I've once again said to myself "I'll just do a little boutique army", but this time I'm sticking to it (no, really) - in one of the recent White Dwarf there was a formation called the Adeptus Mechanicus War Convocation that is comprised of a little bit of everything released recently so I totted it all up and picked up the models to fulfill the formation!

I'd painted some stuff up already (well, up to the point where they're ready for transfers and weathering), built and primered a few other units, and have just a handful of units that still need to be built. The plan is to get the primered stuff painted up to the same level as the currently painted stuff before doing any more building, and saving the Knight for last as a reward (really looking forward to building the new weapon options).

I've always loved the idea of the Electro-Priests and decided to go with a big unit of Fulgurites, of the two options in the kit they're the ones I like the look of the most. I was really pleased with how well they went together, but they suffer somewhat in my opinion with the downside to CAD-created models - they go together brilliantly but really they only go together one way, so you end up with 'repeat' models.

A couple units of Kataphron Breachers join the force, again these were built primarily because I like the look - the Torsion Cannons seem pretty nasty on paper as well! I do like the vague commonalities with these models and the Necron Destroyers, as though the Void Dragon is subtly influencing their design...

Really dig the Dunecrawler model as well - I can totally see how this design is utilized by the Dark Mechanicus to create Defilers. Hard to go wrong with a big ol' Neutron Laser, giving the army some much needed anti-tank firepower.

So here's where things stand at the top of July. The plan of attack is to get the army done by the end of August, which should be a reasonable deadline - ideally I can get 'em done in time to get 'em out the door before taking the trip out to Italy. Looking forward to getting some brush time in on 'em!

It's come to light that the new computer draws a lot more power than the old one, and coupled with the fact that both it and my in-window air conditioning unit are on the same circuit it's become apparent that they can't both be on at the same time without popping the breaker. So with the heat being opressive and the AC being requisite it's meant that my main distraction machine has been powered down and I've gotten a fair bit of painting done over the last couple days!

The Electro-Priests were the first unit up on the painting desk, and they came together surprisingly quickly. As I'd mentioned previously, I'm getting the models up to the "pre-waterslide-and-weathering" step so I can do all of the models in the army at once to ensure they all match up thematically. Got a couple sets of the new Ad-Mech sheets on the way, looking forward to seeing what all is on 'em!

I'm digging the rear of the models, the big power generators and Opus Machina mean they're also interesting to look at as a player when they're facing the enemy! Next up on deck are the Kataphron Breachers, already got the base metallics in place...

Was in the zone this weekend and after finishing the base paint jobs on the Electro-Priests I continued on and got cracking on the Kataphron Breachers as well!

The whole model got a heavy drybrushing of Boltgun Metal followed by a dirty brown wash to give 'em a hard-worn oily look. Once that dried I laid in the reds and got all the gold/brass trim sorted out, and gave the skin an unhealthy greenish pallor befitting their servitor status. Next up are all the innumerable power cables, lenses and whatnot. So far, so good!

Great news! The illustrious Ron over at Eye of Error's Kickstarter has funded, with another 15 days to go - Fallout Hobbies is on the way!

Over the last week he's shown off some of the various pre-designed sheets, and they are absolutely fantastic! Below are just a few of 'em that he's debuted so far!

In addition to these (and more), there's also the opportunity to provide your own custom graphics to be turned into waterslide transfers, which I'm quite looking forward to - got a few custom sheet ideas I can't wait to get printed up!

Definitely worth checking out the project - still a couple weeks to go, and it's already funded so it's going forward!

Quick hit this evening - Little bit of morning painting time over the past week, and got the Kataphron Breachers up to the pre-transfers-and-weathering stage.

I really enjoyed building and painting these models - definitely dig the 'heavy battle servitor' vibe, and the kit is chock full of cool leftover bits for future conversions. Next up on the block is the Dunecrawler, should be fun!

Got a relatively free weekend and jumped on the Dunecrawler this morning, and it came together surprisingly quickly!

Kept on with the red, gold and bone - got me feeling like I was painting Thousand Sons again! The model has all sorts of cool little detailing, the little manipulator arm is pretty cool.

I tried a little lightning crackle on the barrel of the neutron laser but the overhead light sort of washes it out. Will try to get some better pics once it's finalized with the weathering and whatnot.

Once the transfers and weathering are in place, the bases will all get some static grass as well - giving the models a little green on the base should set off nicely against the reds of the models!

Next up, the last of the built models - a unit of Skitarii Rangers. Once they're done, I need to build a unit of Skitarii Vanguard and a unit of Infiltrators, then lastly the knight. Looking forward to that for sure!

Heresy Era Imperial Army - Geno Five-Two Chiliad planning and pondering

$

I've been feeling a little rudderless on the Heresy front recently. I really want to do more Thousand Sons, but I'm forcing myself to wait for the actual minis and rules, subseqently the Spireguard are also on ice (though I am picking up a Stormhammer for 'em at Gencon the end of the month). Recent events have meant I'm not really gaming anymore so it's pretty much all about the modeling and painting side of the hobby at the moment, and that means conversions and odd projects in my mind. Got the itch to do some kitbashing and with the release of Tempest there's a much more viable list to use to do the Geno Five-Two that has been bubbling away on the back burner. The intention is to do a 'historically accurate' selection of models taken from the book Legion - specifically Het Peto Soneka and the Dancers company just prior to their mauling at Tel Utan and elements of the Alpha Legion force that came to their aid (immediately following the Dancers being used as bait by said Astartes) - Because I'm a huge nerd I'm focusing on trying to make the force as 'historically accurate' (i.e. true to the book) as possible within the bounds of my admittedly meagre-to-middling modeling/sculpting talent.

While the art on the front cover of the novel seems to suggest the infantry are dressed similar to the Vostroyans, there's no real indication that those men are supposed to be the Five-Two - indeed their description in the book is rather at odds with the cover (cool pic though it may be). I've been going through the novel and listening to the audiobook and taking notes on their description but the overview on Lexicanium covers all the main points - "The Geno wore a bulky-seeming uniform that nevertheless allowed them to operate with some grace of movement. A thick leather and armourchain bodyglove formed the main item of clothing, with waist-length coats and waist-length capes of yellow Terran silk commonly worn over the top. Their armour segments were lined with fur, and coats and capes were embroidered with company symbols and other military devices. Helmets were of the spiked variety, often trimmed with beads or fur. Standard issue gear was carried in a lightweight pack, with a long sword-bayonet slung at the waist. Uxors wore black, lightweight variants of the uniform, often covered over with gray cloaks or coats."

Now there really isn't a set of models/bits out there that exactly matches that description, but with a bit of greenstuff I'm thinking I should be able to come up with a good approximation. Been scouring the interwebs for good bits and will be leaning heavily on the Victoria Lamb line as the basis for the troops, as I've had nothing but great experiences with their work. There have been several new sets they've come out with since I last thought about the project, so working on the assumption that I can GS my way into passable armorchain and fur (about the extent of my skill), I'm planning on utilizing the following bits:

Legs - Looking at the Arcadian legs from Victoria Lamb, checks the box on the waist-length coats, and the boots and fatigues are suitable enough overall. Granted the book makes mention of bodygloves, but I've not been able to find any leg set that includes both the waist-length coat and more form-fitting leggings. Fatigues it is on that front.

Torsos - My first instinct was to go for the full-blown camo cloak torsos VL does (and they are awesome), but the book mentions several times their capes were also generally waist-length, and they generally carried packs full of gear and LiqNite cannisters so I think the Highland torsos with the chem tanks will be just the thing!

Arms - The universal rolled sleeve arms should hopefully give the models a bit more of a burly feel (or at least that's the plan).

Weapons - The basic trooper in the Five-Two carries a pretty standard lascarbine, and I think the Mk3 laser rifles have a nice RT-era feel to 'em. There's occasional mention of twin-barreled lascarbines in the novel, but I've not found a company that makes 'em as yet.

Heads - The heads have been the hardest thing to sort out. Spiked helms that weren't just full-bore pickelhaube were proving tough to find, but I stumbled across the Meridian Miniatures line, and their steampunk prussian heads were just the thing - glareshields and all!

Add in a little GS'ed fur and chain here and there and I think we might be in business for the base troopers! Feverishly working on finishing up a 40k Ad-Mech force to get up on the ol' auction block to fund the purchase of the bits - having a 'get to start a new project' goal has been a good motivator to finish up the existing batch of minis! Going to be fun nosing around the dealer room at GenCon for other interesting bits and kits, too!

Next up, pondering the other possibilities for the project (alliteration!) - I know I want to work up Uxor Rukhsana Saiid and her entourage as a command cadre squad (though as they don't seem to take the field in the novel in any meaningful way, some liberties may need to be taken), Genewhip Boone and his cronies as Discipline Masters, maybe a unit of Grenadiers as Lucifer Blacks? Of course there's also the Alpha Legion contingent to consider as well (restricted to a tiny allied force), and perhaps I can find a decent way to include good ol' John Grammaticus...

Laid in the basic metal, bone and red on the Skitarii Rangers yesterday evening, quick in progress shot to keep the ball rolling on that project too!

40k Adeptus Mechanicus - Skitarii Rangers painted

As of last week the company I work for moved their headquarters and suddenly instead of a 5 minute commute I have a 45 minute commute. I'm finding that stolen hour and a half of each day is sadly eating into my hobby time - no more getting up an hour early in the morning and paint, it's get up an hour early just to get to work on time. Nevertheless, I did manage to get the Skitarii rangers up to the pre-transfers-and-weathering stage, marking the final unit that remained unpainted, and the goal line to indulge in some build time!

While they'll all get some ad-mech waterslide transfers, I decided to leave the base troopers coats fairly bare and keep the cog-tooth pattern for the leader to help him stand out a bit. They still feel a little monochrome, but the green static grass should really help 'em pop once we get to that stage.

Felt good to flip the colors over from yellow to green, now I get to reward myself with some build time - gonna finish up the two final units of infantry (the Vanguard and the Infiltrators), and do the Knight at the very end as a capstone to the army. Still on track for an end-of-August finish date!

While I was poking around up in the hobby loft I pulled a selection of models from the "this would be a good Dark Heresy/Rogue Trader RPG model" shelf, with an eye towards painting up an Inquisitor warband. No real plan as yet, but I think it'll be fun to come up with some backstory for 'em, and it's a nice varied set of minis to dabble with when I need a brief breather from the army painting process - more to come on this little project in the future!

Inq28 - Death Cultist Tranquilla Morte

In the process of building the next batch of Ad-Mech, and in between gluing my fingers together and trying not to cut off any fingers with the ol' exacto blade I finished painting up the first of the as-yet-unnamed Inquisitor's warband - Tranquilla Morte, Death Cultist of the Imperator Ex Sanctus Sanguine sect.

She was already half painted when I pulled her off the shelf, so mostly it was just a matter of finishing up some detailing. Bit of gold, bit of parchment, some hazard stripes and she's ready to cut the enemies of the Imperium into little quivering chunks!

The model is a little cheesecake-y, but also has a sense of menace to it. I'd considered adding some blood spatter to the weapons, but found that my bottle of Blood for the Blood God wasn't sealed properly and had dried into a solid mass. Gotta find some time to get to the hobby shop to pick up a new one, I suppose!

Was quite fun to just paint a single model for a change!

Back from GenCon!

Been a little quiet on the hobby front of late, as I've been out of town for the lion's share of the last two weeks. Had to burn off a chunk of PTO at work, so I made a run out to Las Vegas to visit some friends and see the Rush tour - good times! After that it was home for a day to do laundry and repack before heading out to Indianapolis for the yearly trip to GenCon.

Got together with some old friends and played a bunch of Shadowrun, where we all got together and did a themed runner team - an all-Troll Russian heavy metal band called "Trolling Thunder". On a lark, we had "tour shirts" printed up to all wear as a group on one of the days, which got a lot of laughs! Also managed to meet up with Dave Taylor and Tim Toolen for an excellent lunch, and a fascinating conversation about making a living in the hobby, and cursing Dave for making me want to chop up old matchbox cars! No miniature game playing to speak of while I was out there, though I did make a couple passes through the dealer room which of course meant swinging by the Forge World booth:

Got away with spending a lot less than last year, but it did sting a bit. Picked up a Stormhammer for the Prosperine Spireguard, which will be boxed up and stored in the Closet of Doom for a rainy day, as well as a few of the event-only minis. They sold out of Narik Dreygur and Autilon Skorr super quickly so I was only able to get one each, but they had a whole mess of the princeps so I was able to pick up a couple - one to build as-is, and a couple to experiment with conversion-wise. I also couldn't resist picking up an Alpha Legion dreadnought for the upcoming project. There isn't one explicitly listed in Legion, but it's such a cool model I can't resist adding one to the force by virtue of assuming there was at least one on the Beta, which was in-theater. That's reasonable justification, right? Also picked up another Master of Signal and Champion set to use as a basis for some other Alpha Legion characters... Should be fun!

Heresy Era Thousand Sons - Prospero Spireguard Stormhammer Built

It's no secret that at my core, I am a dyed-in-the-wool treadhead. It's the main thing that draws me to the Guard (or Imperial Army in this case), and in addition to all the lovely Leman Russ and Chimera variants available, the Guard also has access to some of the most ferocious superheavy tanks in the 40k universe. Back when I played Epic waaaay back in the day, I absolutely loved all the Baneblade and Shadowsword variants that were included. Over the years more and more have become available in 40k scale, and the one I've been most looking forward to is the Stormhammer, one of the few to arguably out-gun the Baneblade. When FW came out with their interpretation of the beast I knew it would be mine!

I'd picked up the model at GenCon and had initially thought I'd just pop in the Closet of Doom for some future date, but I couldn't resist the siren call of building a kit I hadn't tried before. Overall the build was a snap, essentially the only plastic parts are the track sections and the bottom hull, everything else is resin and fit surprisingly well!

They provide the option for all sorts of sponson weapons, but when it comes right down to it it's hard to go wrong with six lascannons! It turns out that the Shadowsword I'd originally built for the Spireguard is no longer supported by their army list, so the Stormhammer will take its place as the centerpiece of the army. Was quite looking forward to painting it, right up to the point where I realized how many rivets I'm on the hook for! Yikes!

40k Adeptus Mechanicus - A whole mess of models finished. Finished-er?

Finished-est?

Well my cunning plan to paint up a whole big Ad-Mech army has fallen apart - turns out I miscalculated and need to come up with some extra funds a bit earlier than I'd originally anticipated (surprise car costs related to the sudden duodecupling of my drive time). So over the past weekend in addition to building the Stormhammer, I also went in and cleaned up the various things on the Ad-mech models that I'd noticed in the last batch of pics, added some waterslide transfers and got the static grass on and re-sealed. Before I put 'em up on eBay however I figured I'd see if anyone has interest in 'em here - pics and prices below (generally retail plus a couple bucks for the build and painting time):

Tech Priest Dominus - $38

 Skitarii Rangers - $45

 Kataphron Breachers - $120

 Fulgurite Electropriests - $85

 Kastelan Robots - $70

 Sicaran Ruststalkers - $48

 Sydonian Dragoons - $100

 Onager Dunecrawler - $68

If you're interested in one or more of these units, drop me an email at moonlight at cold-moon dot com, and we'll sort out total costs and shipping on a first-come-first served basis. I figure on putting whatever isn't spoken for onto eBay this coming weekend. As usual once it goes up on eBay they'll be U.S. only, but I'm open to overseas buyers from blog members with the understanding that shipping overseas gets pretty expensive (it hits $30-$60+ dismayingly quickly).

Still plan on building and painting the remaining models on deck, but they're going to have to wait a little longer than I'd originally planned.

Inq28 - Ogryn Bodyguard Horgg VanDerHuge

$

Got a few weeks to kill while I await the various bits to start trickling in for the Geno Five-Two, so I thought I'd pull out the Inq28 models and work on them for a while. Any self-respecting warband needs at least one meatshield, which brings us to Horgg VanDerHuge, Ogryn bodyguard!

I wanted to ensure he was very slovenly as Ogryns are wont to be, so after laying on the basic colors I went over the model with a number of different grey, brown and rusty washes to give him a scruffy appearance. I tried to do a little grey stippling around the jaw and chin to try and approximate a 5 o'clock shadow, but it's not particularly convincing in the pics. Pretty sure I need to hit that area again. I don't recall what range this model is from, I'd picked it up a few years back at GenCon, I want to say at the Mike McVey booth?

A big ol' Ogryn ought to have a big ol' gun, and it's hard to go wrong with a minigun right? Still working on the fluff for the models, and I'm finding their stories are growing out of the paint scheme. Somewhere along the way Horgg worked alongside (or perhaps fought against) the Ultramarines, and he proudly wears one of their shoulder plates. He also has a pet grot, which has spun off an idea of doing a couple different warbands - The puritanical Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor Helios (pictures to come), and an opposing radical Ordo Xenos inquisitor whose warband includes a number of Xenos/Abhuman mercenaries (many of which to be unveiled soon).

Definitely challenging to just paint one model at a time, but to be honest I'm quite enjoying it!
